Engineer Lars Stahmer explains: “the degradation process in
a biogas plant takes place in a sensitive (micro)biological system.
High gas yield and a properly decomposed fermentation product that
can be exploited for agricultural purposes can only be obtained
by a biogas plant operator if ideal boundary conditions are respected.“
“IBS has been using a complete
measuring system from HACH LANGE to control these boundary conditions
for some time now. We also perform the photometric analysis of more
than 100 fermentation samples a week for ammonium nitrogen, chemical
oxygen demand and total organic acids.“
IBS purchased a TitraLab 840 in order to test buffer capacity in
a fermenter. The relationship between organic acids and buffer capacity
is an important factor in a biogas plant. With the TitraLab 840,
analyses can be performed at the press of a button. “I particularly
appreciate the simple, menu-driven operation and the fact that you
can follow the progress of titration on the graphic display.“
